Research

This project is facilitated by an interdisciplinary team of researchers at Western Carolina University, WCU students, and Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians (EBCI) partners. We aim to share with various audiences at conferences and in publications. This project is funded by WCU’s Sustainable Campus Initiative whose goal is to help fund projects relating to sustainability and educating students on such topics. See this section for a summary of that work.

Project lead, Dr. Sara Duncan, showing a 9th grade class at Cherokee high school how to test the water quality in local areas such as Raven Fork and Bunches Creek. Through scientific processes during this project, students are able to understand air and water quality issues Western North Carolina faces.
